Good luck to all the 2024 candidates! This brings back memories of when my daughter took the 11+ in 2017, just before the catchment area rule was introduced. Time really does fly – she’s now in the sixth form. I remember feeling so nervous yet incredibly proud of her on exam day.
I have to say, this forum is much better now; the discussions are more balanced, and the atmosphere is much calmer. Back then, things could get quite heated and sometimes even toxic, with fierce competition since any child in the country could sit for the Birmingham grammar test, pushing the entrance cut-off to unreasonable levels.
The KE Foundation made the right decision by introducing the catchment area, as it provided local Birmingham children a fairer chance and spared those who narrowly missed the cut-off the long daily commutes across the city.
