Some big changes for next year, including removal of VR/NVR, addition of Creative writing and introduction of a "catchment" area.
I can't quite figure out what 10% of pupils in the priority area means though. Anyone know - is it 10% of PAN so 18 pupils from the priority area?
Anyone have any ideas about the format of a creative writing paper?
Feeling a tad nervous for DD who'll be sitting the exam next year.
this is a consultation at this stage. yes, looks like for NGHS up to 18 (up to 10%) will be offered (presumably only need a pass) in the priority area. As they are not defining any other way of deciding who these 18 are ie by score or distance, I can only assume that historically they have far fewer than 10% from those areas - they may have to amend this at some stage if there are more than 10% eligible.
re creative writing - usual thing is to practice different types of writing eg a newspaper article, letter, story .. "what happened next" etc etc - the key is that it must be in the right format, they do not want children just churning out something they have learned by rote
