That’s very true Mad? : Apologies if I wasn’t clear there.
Don't forget the appeal process. Missing the SR and going for appeal - particularly for a late developer - can give you that chance to gather more substantive evidence and present this - of course this might not work either - but the decision is about which to go for - and this is not something we can advise on - do read the experiences from previous posters - they are not conclusive either way - but you should be fully aware of what your options are before proceeding.
What I meant was: If you don’t Selection Review AND don’t Appeal either, your child can still do well at a non selective school.
We can’t advise whether to SR or Appeal or not, that’s a parental decision, but understanding how the system works will help you as parents make your own decisions of what you wish to do for your DC.
It is important to understand that neither a SR or an Appeal have high chance of success, though some do. but Appeals
are done after all the places are allocated so it is relatively unusual for there to be a space for the successful child to take, which is why the Appeal has to be both against non-qualification (child should have passed) AND oversubscription (Child should be allowed into school and squeezes in even though school is now full). You can see how that is not straightforward and you certainly can’t rely on an Appeal as a likely school place.
