Gosh!
Did anyone else attend the online consultation tonight?
There were some people who were very angry, some calling to get rid of siblings. Some calling for all of the places to be allocated by distance from the school.
Some of course were those with current Y5's who had been very confident they would secure a place by moving close to the school and now find out with 9 months to go that only those in the 4 local schools will be eligible to apply for the 22 closest and that those closest not in the 4 schools will only be able to apply for criteria 8.
The selection of the 4 schools has been made on the premise that DAO is their closest school and the other 3 Potters Bar schools that were not selected are actually closer to Mount Grace.
Lots of comments about the fact that 50% of the chosen 4 are faith schools. Some became very confused and kept stating that Pope Paul being closest will secure all 22 places and had to be continually reminded that that 22 would be chosen on distance to the school and that being a pupil at one of the 4 was just a qualifier for the distance criteria. Many were unaware of the constraints of working under the requirements of the admissions criteria. It had to be pointed out twice that it was not possible to include any private schools in the admission criteria. DG
