Seems like an effective way to restrict the admissions to local people.
The admissions policy for each year's intake is clearly published on the website. Anyone who moved close to the school would have known they were gambling on the hope that it wouldn't change. Unfortunately that gamble probably won't pay off now.
Its not only will prospective parents that will be affected. The properties close to the school attracted a significant premium (20-30% over comparable properties further away). Anyone who owns a house near the school will face the prospect of their property falling in value. The hit will be significant for those who purchased recently.
I note one property on Dugdale Hill Lane has now been placed in an auction with a guide price of £700k (having previously been on the market for £900k). Presumably the vendor wants rid of it ASAP. There may be some people who face significant financial hardship as a result of this change.
