structure and routine is not limited to either single sex schools or grammar schools!

I suspect the teacher was implying that a school with a generally better behaved cohort might be calmer and less disruptive for an ASD child.

A large comprehensive with a substantial proportion of misbehaving children (and teenage boys are often more disruptive than teenage girls in terms of clowning around) is likely to be rowdier, and have more in-lesson distractions and noise. Our local (very good) non selective school has an “isolation block” where disruptive children are sent for the rest of the half day to work in quiet cubicles, because that is BORING but also stops them disrupting the rest of the class.
That solution seems to work well for the school, in a school
with “tidier” pupils it may not be needed.

How do you feel about the school your child HAS beem allocated? If you’re not happy could you consider an independent option (which would have smaller classes) or look at going on the waiting list for a school with a better reputation or appeal for a non selective which has special SEN reputation or provision for autistic pupils?
