11 PLUS APPEALS • Re: Bucks: Headteacher not supportive

For anyone still following my tale, starting 2.5 years ago.....!

DS sat the 13+. On this occasion, I was able to secure "access arrangements" for the test - 10% extra time and being able to sit the test alone to avoid noises/distractions. Delighted to say that he scored 136! There are now (of course) no spaces at our grammar school of choice to join in Yr 9, but this does give me a 3rd attempt at an Appeal. And now the conversation will move from one of proving academic qualification to prejudice. I very much hope it will be successful, but even if not, I now know that slightly adapted exam conditions can have a significant impact on results, which is something that can be used in any future exam setting.

It's taken me a while to convince others (including family members) that DS has SEN. He masks it well, but it has become much more apparent at secondary school - different lesson format/teaching styles, I suppose. So I just wanted to encourage anyone else in a similar position to continue fighting for your child if the 11+ result doesn't give you the result that you think fully reflects your child's ability.

I will post an update after the Appeal outcome in due course.
