I agree, but places like New hall have already raised fees by nearly 10% for 2024/25, and I suspect there is more to come once any announcement is made. I know for a fact at least one parent who has accepted a place at CCHS, who until recently had New Hall as their preferred option. This IS having an effect on the reduced rejection rates.
Is the parent you mentioned keeping their options open by accepting their CCHS place and paying their deposit for New Hall or have they decided to opt for grammar over independent?
They have opted to go with the grammar school option and forego the New Hall offer.

Regarding lower exam results, I think this is explained by the independent school accepting varying abilities. Those who struggle academically will hopefully benefit from the smaller classes, and the extra tuition, but similarly those more capable students are also likely to benefit and excel. It’s obviously different for everyone, but those with the money to spare firmly believe that the independent sector offers better opportunities, both academically and extra curricular.
