My son is at UCS and I would say that if money isn’t an issue, choose a private school rather than Latymer. The pastoral care is fantastic and they offer a wide range of extra curricular activities. Music, drama and sport are all excellent. Most of the teachers are great and the classes are smaller than at state school. You can speak to teachers at any time and they will take action if there are issues. Obviously it’s expensive and you get what you pay for.My son is in good chance of getting an offer from Latymer school (we are in catchment). I wanted to pick brains of those who already have kids in the school or maybe have other inside knowlege. I am primarily interested in their extra-curricular activities and pastoral care. DS has undiagnosed ADHD so would be good to also know how they treat pupils with that condition given that he isn't too hyper but yet is quite shouty. We will be choosing from Latymer and independent schools such as Highgate, Westminster and UCS (given he gets in). He didn't prep for these exams until August but he is a bright kid so I am sure he will do well in GCSEs wherever he goes, therefore the school choice falls down to the pastoral care and how interesting it will be for him to study there. My son has mainly been bored in school most of his life and working independently on higher level maths because this is his area of interest, but we really want a school that will challenge him in maths and other areas too. Is Latymer good with challenging and pastorally?
