Hi Coffeelover, he didn’t get into Beths which was out first choice but he did get Wilmington Boys which was our second. I debated doing an appeal for Beths but honestly felt that the probability of success was too low vs the effort involved, and I had spent too far obsessing over the whole thing so wanted to draw a line under it all and move on 😂
He’s had one week there now and so far so good but really too early to tell.
I did continue to chase Beths and eventually got an answer from them confirming it was distance based. I pointed out that their policy didn’t comply with the guidelines but no reply to that although I noticed that they amended their 23/24 policy to include the tie breaker details.

I’m hoping that we may have a silver lining in that my daughter can benefit from a sibling rule for Wilmington girls if she passes the Kent test next year, whereas Beths doesn’t have an equivalent so it might all work out for the best, but that’s next years worry!
Hi Mavis,
Glad to hear your son got place in Wilmington that is too our 2nd choice but on 1st March 2024 he has not been offered a place at Wilmington now we are on waiting list. Kindly let us know how far you live when you put Wilmington your 2nd choice and got place, is there any hope to be on waiting list?
Hi, I appreciate it’s a tough time. My son got the place at Wilmington through their first selection criteria (Governor’s place for top 10% of Kent test score within a 5 mile radius) so our distance isn’t really relevant.
We have been pleased with the school so I think it would be worth contacting them and seeing where you are in the waiting list. I saw last year that a lot of movement goes on throughout March and April so don’t give up yet; hopefully you will get a space.
Re Beths, unfortunately it seems that the additional criteria is put in place mostly for siblings and there is little expectation that it would progress beyond that.
Hi Mavis, thank you so much for your kind words and information fingers crossed 🤞🏻 now we have to wait till April for the 2nd round of allocation. Thanks once again for replying 😊
