Hi. We are going to appeal for my child. She did not get her first choice of school. She did the second round music test carried out by South West Herts School Consortium. However when we received the score, it was very low. My child felt that she did really well during the test as expected and did not make any mistakes. So we requested the consortium team to released examiners comments. As soon as we saw the comments, we realized that the examiners were not familiar with the song. She chose a slow and sad guitar piece, which is not a typical fast guitar piece. She chose it because she loved the deep emotions in the song and because it was difference to other typical guitar music. Unfortunately the examiners commented that the low mark was due to too many hesitation moments. So we emailed them back with the video of the original song, as well as in the music book of the piece, which clearly show that the song is a show ballad with intentional pauses throughout. However, the consortium team responded that as parents, we may well have a bias that the examiners do not, our expectation of our daughter was too high. And they said, our daughter just did not execute the pauses well. I ask them for re-assessment or second opinion, they completely refused and just ask us to go for the appeal.
Now we are looking into appeal. I called the appeal team for advise and they said the panel would not look at how the music mark was given. So on what grounds can we appeal? We feel we are really disadvantaged here, because it is our words against the music expect at the consortium team. The panel would not believe what we said. They would definitely be in favour of the expects. My daughter has grade 4 in guitar and working really hard to get into her first choice of school which has fantastic music department. Please kindly advise. Many thanks.
